I will do a Cat3550 that connect some voip telephones
directly. My job is config the 3550 for transfering the
voice traffic fastly without changing any config of voip
telephone. Including the IP precedence and DSCP setting of
IP telephone.

<P>The concept of the voice vlan is to separate the voice
traffic from data. The concept of trunking is to accept
the class of service priority within the frame header
2-byte tag. If the phone is setting the IP precedence or
DSCP in the IP header, the switch would accept it if the
access port is configured to "trust". You can, however,
mark the incoming priority down or up. Tell me exactly
what you are trying to achieve, and what switch platform
you are using.</P>

<DIV></DIV>>In the cisco.com's voice vlan configuration
guidelines.It
<DIV></DIV>>said should configure voice VLAN on switch
access ports.
<DIV></DIV>>So the trunk mode is useless.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Infact , one thing I am very worry about,
that is the voip
<DIV></DIV>>telephone could set the ip precedence and
Diffserv
<DIV></DIV>>parameter. If the voice traffic pass
through the catalyst,
<DIV></DIV>>I am worry about ip precedence and Diffserv
setting will
<DIV></DIV>>be changed to the default.

<DIV></DIV>><P>I would still recommend using
setting a voice vlan to
<DIV></DIV>>separate the voice from the data
traffic.&nbsp; If you are
<DIV></DIV>>not using a cisco phone, trunking between
the switch and
<DIV></DIV>>the phone might be useless. If trunking is
not enabled on
<DIV></DIV>>the ingress port, then the switch will not
recieve QoS
<DIV></DIV>>setting from the phone. However, a PC
attached to the
<DIV></DIV>>phone might try set traffic with a higher
priority, so use
<DIV></DIV>>the switchport priority extend cos to
prevent this. Set
<DIV></DIV>>the voice media traffic on the ingress port
to cos 5 or
<DIV></DIV>>dscp 46, set the voice signalling to cos 3,
and set data
<DIV></DIV>>to cos
0.<BR><BR></P></DIV>

you want the pc attached to the
<DIV></DIV>>phone to be
<DIV></DIV>><DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;
trsuted by the phone ? If yes
<DIV></DIV>><DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;
then you need "switchport priority
<DIV></DIV>>extend trust".
<DIV></DIV>><DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;
Then the switch will trust
<DIV></DIV>><DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;
both the voice and the pc thx to "mls

cos".
<DIV></DIV>><DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; If
not then just "mls qos trust cos"
<DIV></DIV>>as the phone

will override pc traffic
