Guys,
Actually don't read into things so much, it will make them easier most of
the time. Take it from experience!!!
If I understand Kenneths question right it is how to set the QOS to a 802.1P
frame instead of a .1Q frame for the voice vlan?

This is most likely a task for the 3550 correct? Well looking at the 3550
config guide you have 2 options.
1. Configure voice VLAN to carry traffic in an 802.1Q frame

2. Configure voice VLAN to carry traffic in an 802.1P frame

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c3550/12120ea2/3550scg/s
wvoip.htm

So the only difference is the 1 keyword on the voice vlan config
statement!!!!

switchport voice vlan (vlan ID)

switchport voice vlan dot1p

It is little 1 command intricacies that can kill in the lab!!!

Mike

P.S. Of course if you want to KNOW everything there is to know about frame
tagging before you get to the
lab, well there is much more to learn!!!

Kenneth, not sure if someone already answered this. But there is a good
paper at NMC about this and it basically says that Cisco calls Dot1p when
voice and data are on the same vlan if I remember well. When on separate
vlans then Cisco calls it Dot1Q,

Subject: 802.1q/p

Is 802.1p just the ISO standard nomenclature for the IP COS bits in an
802.1q frame? In other words, if a question says "make sure to use 802.1p
for QoS" or "make sure to set high priority with 802.1p", does this just
mean make sure to set the COS bits within an 802.1q frame?

Sorry if this seems like a basic question, but I can't find any
documentation that specifically solidifies this concept. I just want to
make sure that I completely understand what is implied when a requirement is
presented to employ 802.1p.

Thanks!
