Art,

Check out the following Tech-Note on the NetMasterClass web-site. Go to
the NetMasterClass READiT library:

http://www.netmasterclass.net/site/lib.php

and download the fifth paper from the top of the list. It is titled
"Cisco IOS TCL and RCMD testing and troubleshooting scripting"

It is a four page paper that walks you through the following:

1). How to set up rcmd on each router to run TCL scripts
2). How to write a TCL to collect all IP addresses within your pod
3). How to write a TCL script that will work in conjunction with
rcmd to run a ping script from every Cisco device in your test rack in
order to ping all IP addresses within your domain.

This paper should walk you through each of the operations above on a
step by step basis.

Learning how to use a TCL ping script combined with rcmd is a tremendous
tool. We highly recommend that all CCIE candidates learn how to perform
this operation. We stress this to all over our CCIE preparation students
and our DOiT subscribers.

In any CCIE lab, whether it is a practice lab or the real lab, there
will come a time (and more than likely several times) when you will want
to test for "full reachability" or "universal connectivity" within your
rack of equipment. Typically, this moment is when you have completed
configuring redistribution between routing domains. Using TCL with the
rcmd commands is a real time saver when you reach this stage of your
lab.

Again, we highly recommend you learn how to test for universal
connectivity within your rack using TCL and rcmd commands.

Here is a quick note, when learning this procedure: When using the TCL
scripts with rcmd for the first time, do not enter in an extensive list
of router IP addresses to access via rcmd or an extensive list of ip
addresses to ping with the TCL scripts. Use only two router IP addresses
to access via rcmd and 2-3 IP addresses to ping with your initial TCL
script. Using a small number will allow you to get a feel for working
with both rcmd and TCL while minimizing any frustration you may
encounter during the learning phase of implementing this technique.
Once, you have become comfortable with using rcmd and TCL, then increase
the number of Cisco devices you want to access and the number of IP
addresses you want to ping.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

HTH,

Subject: Tclsh & Rsh........

When I try to run a tclsh script with a rsh variable...I get a
"permission denied" reply back from all routers. I am assuming that I
will need to send the telnet password with the rsh command. Has any one
acomplished the ip reachability scripts that are posted here on Group
Study? And if so could you, briefly explain how to set this up.

Thanx
