RE: Router IDs

Always hard code the router-id's in OSPF !! Just in case you are asked
later to configure virtual links.
But it is good practice to always hard code everything. Suppose in a later
exercise that different routers need to have the same loopback address (In
MSDP for instance) and you reload the routers to test your setup. Which
loopback address will the router use for its IGPs ?!?!? You may endup with 2
EIGRP routers using the same router-id, who knows ? You will have lost
connectivity for no apparent reason,

Subject: Router IDs

Talking specifically about the lab exam, should the router id's for routing
protocols be set manually (where applicable) rather than just relying on the
protocol to choose it itself?

Obviously for most of the routers in the lab they will probably choose the
correct address as most just have 1 loopback interface, but even so, is it
something that is looked for by the examiners? Will we lose points if we
don't set them at all, will we lose points if we use them every where even
if the router would choose the same address by itself, or should the router
id just be set on devices that would not choose the 'correct' interface as
it's loopback?

Cheers,
Nigel
