RE: Trunk without DTP negotiation

When the port is statically configured as trunk, DTP packets are still sent
out and could cause configuration problem if the other end does not support
DTP.

"switchport nonnegotiate" will stop a port from generating any DTP packets.

Subject: Trunk without DTP negotiation

Hello,

In IE workbook, Lab 7 Task 1.5

Task is asking to make a dot1q trunk on port 6. This trunk should not be
negotiated via DTP.
It is also asked to create another dot1q trunk on port 13. This trunk should

be negotiated via DTP.

Solution was :

===========
int f0/6
switchport trunk encap dot1q
switchport mode trunk

int f0/13
switchport trunk encap dot1q
===========

Question:

When asked not to negotiate via DTP, why the command "switchport
nonegotiate" was not used ?
I can see that static trunking has been configured but still why the
nonegotiate command was not used ?

If the solution is correct then kindly explain when it would be required to
use the " switchport nonegotiate " command.

Regards,
Yasser
