It is indeed possible. Here you go:

Subject: out of band modem as dial backup?
Hi Folks,
I am sure this is possible,
I have a requirement to provide back up service for some remote sites using
Cisco 831 DSL router. This router has 4 FastE, and 1 DSL and CON. The
requirement is to provide means to backup this router when and if DSL line
goes down. Assume that I have external modem connected to CON port (no AUX
port on this router). Can the CON port setup to dial out automatically when
DSL line goes down????
- I called TAC on this question, Did not get an clear answer.
Someone in my work is telling me that this is possible. But I do not see
how.??????
and If this is not possible, is there any other means to do this?
THX
