Scott,
Per the standard spec for an ISO NSAP address yes, but per
Cisco's implementation no. Anything to the left of the first 7 bytes
(the system-id and the n-selector) is technically the area address. If
the AFI were required then the command line would not let you do the
following:
Rack5R1(config)#router isis
Rack5R1(config-router)#net 12.0000.0000.0001.00
Rack5R1(config-router)#net 0c.0000.0000.0001.00
Mike the reason I was asking the question was because if the
task in the lab is not telling you to prefix the area with 49.... why
would you do it? Area 49.0012 is not the same as area 12.
Whether the area is expressed in decimal or hex is another
issue. Typically hex numbers are express as 0x12, etc., or with a NET
area it could be 12.3456. Your best bet is probably to ask the proctor
for clarification though.
