Tom,

        You mentioned 'telnet' and 'serial' in the same sentence. I'm
assuming you're either telneting into an IP address, or you've got a
term emulator connected to the console port. If using the console port,
you're in the switch module, and CatOS will be the first thing you see.
If it's native IOS, you'll be logging into that, which controls both the
layer 2 sup and the MSFC. But if you're using telnet and the switch is
hybrid mode, you can telnet to either an MSFC address, or the SC0
interface of the supervisor. If you're consoled into the switch, and
looking on how to get into the MSFC, I think you're looking for 'session
x'. Or 'switch console x', where x is either 15 or 16, depending on
which slot you're using. If it's a 720 running hybrid, I don't know
what slot the MSFC would be in. Try 'sh mod' to find out. I think
that's most of the combinations...
