That's not necessarily true. There are certain DOCSIS parameters that can
be passed which will have different values for different manufacturer's
modems. Partiuclarly if you're in a DOCSIS 1.1 or 2.0 plant, where
certificates are used, then it's very much important to know what's what and
who's who.

If it's setup for bridging and configured correctly and the service provider
has no issues with customers using there own modems, the device will work.
RF plant and provisioning systems are not device specific.
