The command is not irrelevant if you want to configure FRTS per DLCI.
So you use three static maps to three DLCIs on an phi. interface, but
traffic shape only one of them with fr interface-dlci/class commands.
Hope this helps.
You should look at IE explanation of FRTS, it is very nice

Subject: RE: Frame-relay interface-dlci command dependancy on physical

the thing is.. i don't need this command on a physical interface.
R5#sh run int s0/0
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 306 bytes
!
interface Serial0/0
ip address 150.50.100.5 255.255.255.224
encapsulation frame-relay
no arp frame-relay
frame-relay map ip 150.50.100.5 501
frame-relay map ip 150.50.100.2 501 broadcast
frame-relay map ip 150.50.100.6 501 broadcast
no frame-relay inverse-arp
end
As per normal.. this config works... now when i add in the frame-relay
interface-dlci 501 command... i cannot remove this unless removing the
static maps first... which is besides the point since this command is
irrelevant on a phsyical interface because the use of static maps...
hope my reasoning of questioning is a bit clearer...
cheers

"no frame-relay interface-dlci [dlci]" means "do NOT use this dlci in
this interface".
This is a contradiction since you are already using it through the map.

Just playing around with configurable options.. part of ipexpert
chapter 3.
btw, a frame-relay interface-dlci command is not required on a physical
intf... all you need are static maps.
so my question is why is there a dependancy on this actual command
"frame-relay interface-dlci [dlci]" on a physical interface after this
command has been added after static maps. You cannot do a "no
frame-relay interface-dlci [dlci]" without first removing the static
maps.

Hi Serran,
A map statement binds a DLCI to an interface, regardless whether it is
the physical or a subinterface.
Why do you want to delete a DLCI referenced by a map? Maybe you want to
add the map to the subinterface?
Cheers,
Ato.

Subject: Frame-relay interface-dlci command dependancy on physical
interfaces
Hi All,
I understand the use of this command with ptp or ptmp sub intf's..
however if I use this command on a physical intf (on a spoke router)..
AND after I have confirgured static maps, i cannot remove this command
unless i have removed the static maps first. The following IOS msg is
parsed out:
R5(config-if)#no frame-relay interface-dlci 501
%Cannot remove PVC as being referenced by map statement R5(config-if)#
Is there any reason why the command seems to bind to the static maps
when not really required in the first place for a phy intf?
Thanks
Serran
