Hi Tony,

Well I had a similar situation. My CCNP is about to expire and I passed
the CCIE written months ago,
my CCNP expiration date was not extended. Once I read your post it gave me
hope as I don't want to waste time doing the re-certification exam and focus
on the lab preparation.

I just opened a case with Cisco and here is their reply

-------------------------------------
"CCIE Written Exams Do Not Renew Professional Level Certifications
Question:If I pass one of the CCIE Qualification exams, will it renew my
CCNP, CCDP, CCSP and CCIP certifications?

Answer:
Passing a CCIE Qualification exam does not renew the professional level
certifications. Once the CCIE certificaiton is achieved by passing both the
qualification and the lab exams, the related professional level
certifications will be renewed.

As long as the CCIE certification remains active, all related professional
level certifications will also remain valid. For additional information,
please visit our Recertification Overview website.

----------------------------------

Sadly to say it is clear from their reply that written exam won't renew the
professional level exams.
Are you sure this happened with you ?

Maybe lucky or maybe they changed their policies.

Regards,
Yasser
