Thanks, Scott. I found this link
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note
09186a0080094830.shtml that confirms that as well. A pity that the 3550
gives you all of the prompts, and offers the command completion for
Private VLANs, only to not support it.
Thank you,

Private VLANs are not supported on the 3550 at this time. They should
be at
some point.
If you want to be sure that certain devices don't talk to each other,
consider the use of VACLs or simply using the "switchport protected"
command. This is like a precursor to private vlans. Any devices that
are
protected will not talk to any other protected devices. But will still
talk
to anyone else in the same VLAN without any issue.

Subject: Cat3550 Private VLAN
Have any of you ever gotten this message when trying to configure
Private
VLANs on a 3550...
" Unimplemented Function: pm_platform_vlan_set_pvlan_typev" ?
I get it when I configure a VLAN to be a private vlan (e.g. isolated),
then
exit from VLAN configuration mode. Any ideas on getting around it (or
do
they NOT really support private VLANs)?
Thank you,
