Sam,

It seems to me that the host routes created by the OSPF point-to-multipoint
network type are critical to routing operations on that link, so you would
not want to get rid of them unless summarizing to another area.

If your hub is .1 and your spokes are .2 and .3, then the only way for .2 to
reach .3 is through .1, this is the whole point of the network type, to turn
a frame partial mesh NBMA into a series of p-p links. The good thing about
this is that the layer 3 topology actually matches the layer 2 topology.
