Hi There,
I just wanted to ask 2 questions
1)My first question is actually based upon OSPF Demand Circuit
The question is that on a router configured for the demand circuit, we are redistributing from another protocol like rip e.g. and the isdn link is using the same network as the rip domain. Now the problem is that after the the link is brought up, the ppp host route is generated. The question is that y does this host route gets redistributed into ospf as an external route even though ospf has a network statement that actually covers the host route as well?. This really defies the logic.
After strenous attempts to master redistribution I have finally reached a conclusion that if a network is being covered by a network statement of two routing protocols (regardless of the administrative distance), this network cannot appear as an external route (as if being redistributed from the other protocl)in any of the ruting protocols database. So howdoes this host route gets into the ospf database which is quite contrary to the normal behaviour.
2) The second question is again Regarding Redistribution.
I have again reached another conclusion regarding redistribution and that is the mutual redistribution between OSPF and EIGRP cannot generate loops because of the external distance of EIGRP. Can there be a scenario in which the routing loops can still happen even if we are running these two protocols.
I noticed another thing. Even e.g if you change the adin distance of EIGRP external routes to 90 e.g. then on one of the routers, the ospf routes shall appear as EX D, but still ospf will not accept the routes (contrary to some documentation) because OSPF prefers internal routes over IA and E routes. So whats the problem than. Yes the ospf routes do appear as D EX routes on one router but still OSPF shall not accept the routes as external route. What do we call this is it merely a case of suboptimal routing or Routing loops as well.
Last thing: Do we have to make the routing such that e.g a particular ospf route could be reachable closer through EIGRP as compared to OSPF domain itself. So is it necessary to alter the distances so that OSPF uses EIGRP domain to access some networks.
Thanking in advance.
Best Regards
