PPP authentication

Question asks to use ppp and an authentication type that does NOT send
the full password. I can't seem to find any references to this. PAP
sends the full password as clear text and CHAP sends a hash of the
password. I would guess it is CHAP, but can anyone shed some light on
this for me.
