Hi All,
When would it be better/needed to configure (in an Ethernet segment with
multiple PIM routers) the PIM DR and the IGMP querier functionalities in the
same device?
I know by default the highest IP takes PIM DR role and the lowest IP the
IGMP querier role, and that you can configure priorities to override this
behaviour. I understand for PIM this might represent an advantage in certain
topologies (for example, set the PIM DR as the closest router to the
backbone) but... Where is it better to place the IGMP querier?
What I saw in my debugs is that a PIM DR processes the IGMP messages
(report, leave) even if it is not the IGMP querier. The only additional IGMP
work done by the querier seems to be sending the query packet itself.
Any ideas would be appreciated. For info, I will read the posts on Monday.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Ato.
