Keep in mind that the goal of this exam is to pretty much press you to the
wall and really test your knowledge by pulling out goofy and weird things
with many hidden tricks you have to be on your guard to address. That being
said IS-IS is chock full of weird stuff that can easily throw multiple
twists into a network design. The biggest thing to remember is that its not
a native IP routing protocol, but an OSI/CLNS protocol retrofitted to work
with IP. One example is that if you are using it over frame you have to
have a separate frame relay map statement (frame relay map CLNS dlci), that
you never hav eto use with any other. Add to that the multiple levels of
passwords and some other peculiarities and you have a tantalizing recipe for
network weirdness (yes that is a technical term).
