DES won't connect to 3DES. They are two separate encryption processes.

MD5, however, is a hash process. This really has nothing to do with DES
or 3DES, it's a completely independent feature.

So the fact that one IOS is DES only, and the other IOS is 3DES will
have no bearing on the EIGRP authentication process.
