It is much easier than writing an acl for each connected network - less
lines and if the address changes you don't need to change an acl. Matches
the routes that have their next hop out one of the interfaces specified
which means the networks configured on the interface

route-map CONNECTED
match interface lo0 fa0/0 etc..

versus

access-l 1 permi 1.1.1.1 0.0.0.0
access-l 1 permi 2.2.2.0 0.0.0.255

route-map CONNECTED
match ip address 1
