Hey guys --
I had promised myself that when I joined this list, I wouldn't engage in the
silly waste-of-time activities of "moaning and groaning" (aka "m&g"). I
assumed everyone would be heavily and totally focused on working on honing
skills for the lab!! But alas I find that some of us have sufficient spare
time to WASTE doing our m&gs. I wasn't going to get dragged into the fray,
but now that an assault on "senior citizens" is in the works, I now find
myself drawn -- almost like a magnet -- to offer my "2 cents" --!!!!!
It is not only "doctors" (I presume you mean M.D.s) who "never cease to
learn" even into their "fifties," there are others (non-M.D.s) -- many
others in this fast-moving world that continue the process of learning well
into -- and even past their fifties! Some for necessity and some for the
ever burning desire to learn even more!
Whether you characterize them as "perpetual students" (as my dear departed
Irish mother used to characterize me!!<smile>) or realize that the thirst
for knowledge "is" (or should be) never-ending is immaterial. In the world
in which we live, it is almost absolutely necessary to continue our
obtaining of knowledge well beyond the formal education years that society
has structured (elemenary, high school, university!!). Most importantly,
this "thirst for knowledge" is not limited to "M.D.s," it is universal! I
guess I could go on -- and on -- and on (boring!!!), but I'm hoping that the
messege in my missive is clear -- the obtaining of "new" or "additional"
knowledge is not limited to the "young" or "brilliant." It is
"universal" -- and almost an absolute requirement is this fast-moving world
that we have been born into!!!!
And now with the end of this commercial break (on behalf of seniors
everywhere!!), let's get back to our lab prep!!!
Good luck to all on our upcoming lab!! And enjoy a wonderful and peaceful
holiday!
