I've been doing some extensive testing with mutual redistribution with the
different protocols. I tend to lean towards tagging routes...tag a route
going out of an IGP and deny that same tag from entering the IGP. It's more
dynamic than route filtering.
However, you should master the method of changing admin distance for the
following reasons:
Not all IGPs support tagging...RIPv1 for example. Therefore, if doing a
mutual redistribution between say OSPF and RIPv1, tagging won't help you.
And secondly, something you will sure experience in the exam, if doing
redistribution between three or more IGPs, for example, ospf peering with
eigrp which peers with ripv2 and which in turn peers with back with
ospf....tagging is going to be a nightmare. For myself, found that
modifying admin distances is the way to go when dealing with more than 2
IGPs that all connect to each other.
hth,
James
