what is meaning and use of numeric display in traceroute !!

hi group,
 
       im running a simple back to back test scenario over RIP and load balancing on two serial connections using similar hop metrics. while doing a traceroute with no numerical display for 14 packets i see this display :

my question is what is use of USING NUMERIC DISPLAY ..does it help in any specific scenario in real life ....and why do i loose 1 packet each time in the above dispaly with numeric display on ...
