RE: Ping scripts for routers.

If you are confident enough that you don't want to bother pinging every
interface on all routers and switches in your rack, then skip it.

But suppose you *do* want to ping each interface. For the sake of
argument, let's say you have an average five IP addresses configured on
each of 6 routes and 2 switches, some might have more and some less.
Eight time five is forty so that means you are going to type in "ping
x.x.x.x" 40 times on each device.

Personally, I just don't type that fast. I used the script twice: Once
after finishing IGP redistribution. I found a couple of loopbacks I had
forgotten to add to an IGP. I used the script once more at the end of my
lab time with 30 minutes to go, after I had rebooted all the equipment.

There's not much to memorize, just 2 or 3 lines of code.

Type "sh ip int brief | exclude unassigned" on each device and copy the
output into notepad. The edit out the extraneous junk, add the TCL
commands and you're done. I think it took me just over 5 minutes. I then
copy and paste the script into each router as needed.

Some people set up rcmd to run the script from a single router, but I
would rather not configure anything extra on the routers, than what is
in the lab exam booklet.

HTH,

Jonathan
