Good question... There should be some indication of which one to use.
I haven't tried mismatching them to see whether things would still work
or not, so you may want to lab that one up.

It's late and I have jet lag at the moment, so I'm not going to attempt
to ponder the differences without having routers here. No sense in
embarassing myself! (grin)

Cheers from Rio de Janiero though,

Scott

Scott,

If the lab doesn't specify which encapsulation to use for PPPoA,
especially when asked to run it with a backbone router, which
encapsualation should I used ? Does that imply I have to take the
approach of trial by error ?

I believe net3 doesn't use SPIDs. Remember that SPIDs are a North
America thing only. The 5ESS switch can be configured to use SPIDs, but
it may not be. Depends on the switch tech.

As for the ATM portion, I would say that the answer will depend greatly
on the wording of the exam. You can do PPPoA with the IETF way
(aal5mux) or the Cisco way (aal5ciscoppp). I would know how to do both
just in case the exam says something one way or the other.

For the ilmi-keepalive, you should really set this to whatever the
switch is set to. If you don't enable the ilmi pvc, then setting or
turning off the keepalive is irrelevant. Watch what the lab says and
play it from there.
