I do not grasp it exactly myself.
But you want to include the vlan tag...... phone plays switch, removes tag
on the segment to the pc!

I'd say trunking works for:
Setting Prio's to traffic, say qos, security issues also separating the
callmanager, addressing issues to name few.

Onderwerp: Voice VLAN confusion

Excuse my ignorance but can anyone tell me if it is necessary to =
configure a 3550 switchport as a trunk when using a voice vlan in which =
multiple devices are connected to the switchport (i.e. a IP phone and a =
computer)??? In another forum individuals are saying that you have to =
have dot1q trunking enabled on the interface is this true???From what I =
had seen on Cisco's site
this is all that is needed excluding the QOS stuff:

int fa0/1
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 10 (data vlan)
switchport voice vlan 20
.................................

Could someone explain the relevance of configuring the port as a trunk =
and or access port when using dot1q on the voice VLAN as well as with =
802.1p??
Thanks in advance!!!
Jason
