Sam,

Having made my 1st attempt just two weeks ago, I would suggest a 3550, at least two routers with a Fast Ethernet interface (2600s), and a ISDN sim. You can build out the rest with 2500s. The 2514 cost a little more than the 2501 but they give you more flexibility with 2 Ethernet interfaces. Items like Voice and ATM you can practice by renting rack time or at a bootcamp. Before you attend a bootcamp, you should know the fundamentals cold. I would recommend NetMaster's DoIt labs or IPExpert's to accomplish this task. IPExpert has labs on individual topics which is good when you are trying to learn the basics. The DoIt lab scenarios will have you pulling your hair out, they are that good. I used them in my final weeks before the exam.
I missed my first attempt by inches, and it wasn't because I hadn't seen the stuff before. You have to learn Cisco-Speak when interpreting the requirements.
The bootcamp was good to validate where I was at and to polish up on the "general practices."
Also, a lot of people will tell you to focus all your energy on the fundamentals and you can figure out the rest with the CD. I would strongly recommend that once you have the basics down, you spend some time on QoS, IOS features, and know the 3550 cold.

My two cents.

GOOD DAY to everybody from Singapore,

I'm planning to take LAB exam sometime next year and now i'm at the crossroad and do not know which way to go and I would greatly appriciate your advise especially from those who has taken the exam before. basically,I have few options here:

1. Building a complete LAB ( ISDN,ATM,Voice) it is mission-impossible to me as it would cost me $$,$$$

2. Builing a moderate LAB ( without ISDN, Voice, ATM, 3550) and rent some LBA on line
It would cost me about 3K and time to collect bits and pieces through EBAY.

3. Go for a Bootcamp. ( seem to be very expensive 5K for 07 day Training), Someone said " if you think education is expensive, try ignorance" but I do believe there are still way out for those unfortuante like me who do not have big $$$$ to spend.

What options do you think would be the best, anybody here can tell me where should I start, which books? .... I passed my Written and had quite considerable expereince with Routing/voiceIP/Frame-Relay...etc but I think if I do not study the Right way I will not be able to pass any exam at all.

Thanks in advance

Sam
