All,
We know OSPF cost is derived from 10**8 / BW. (See P425 of Doyle) With the
default reference BW, OSPF will not be able to differentiate the cost of FE,
GE or OC3. I.e. FE with 100M is having same cost as GE with 1,000M.
The 'auto-cost reference 5000' make mathematic sense if you want to change
the cost for GE to 5. By doing so, you would expect:
1. Cost for FE will be changed to 50, and
2. Cost for Ethernet to 500.
But, why am I getting the 'Cost 500' for all three types of interface???
cat2(config-router)#au ref 5000
cat2#sio int g0/1
GigabitEthernet0/1 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect)
Internet Address 1.1.1.1/24, Area 1111
Process ID 1, Router ID 1.1.1.1, Network Type BROADCAST, Cost: 500
cat2#sio int f0/22
FastEthernet0/22 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect)
Internet Address 2.2.2.2/24, Area 1111
Process ID 1, Router ID 1.1.1.1, Network Type BROADCAST, Cost: 500
bb1#sio int e0
Ethernet0 is up, line protocol is up
Internet Address 3.3.3.3/24, Area 333
Process ID 1, Router ID 9.9.9.9, Network Type BROADCAST, Cost: 500
Im running: c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-14.EA1.bin on Cat3550
bb1 is a 2509 running: c2500-is-l.122-15.T7.bin
Same problem on 2620 running: c2600-ik9o3s3-mz.122-15.T7.bin
Thanks,
Yulan
