Re: 3550 - trunk config - allowed vlans

Thanks for getting back to me.

I asked because I make lots of configuration & typing mistakes. I wouldn't
purposely config vlan 5 on one side and vlan 6 on the other but I could very
easily see myself missing or mistyping a vlan in a list of 6 vlans if I had
to configure the list on both sides. So, I wanted to know primarily how to
quickly identify and correct a mistake if configuring the list on both sides
were required.

I was also thinking about the following scenario.

Assume 2 Cat 3550's connected by a trunk and both in VTP server mode.

Suppose I configure a list of allowed vlans for the trunk and then some time
later realize that I need to make changes to that list. Do I need to be
concerned with which Cat I make the changes on?

I would hope not but I wasn't sure. Given that the list of vlans on a trunk
do not need to be configured on both sides, it sounds like it's OK to make
the changes on either Cat. Do you agree?

I just learned about the show int trunk command. I think using that command
on both switches would verify if there's a problem. True?

Thanks again, dt
