I just want to say that I was misled about the quality of the bomber
jackets. Some people really talked them down, calling them things like
Pleather. Now I don't have much of a history with leather goods, but I
really like my CCIE bomber jacket and found it very useful for commuting on
the train last winter. It gives warmth without too much bulk, and I could
leave it on in a crowded commuter train (VRE) and not be way too hot or
crowd my neighbor.
I thought it might seem arrogant, wearing my number on my jacket, so to
speak, but it ceased to worry me. Worry about that dissipated the same way
that worry about getting the CCIE but not being able to find a job with it
dissipated. I found a job so soon it was shocking, after I had sold most of
my equipment to give me a cushion for a long search.
My advice is not to worry about things as much as I did (and still sometimes
do), and don't let these debates take away too much of your mental energy.
