Questuion about PaGP and LACP when configering etherchannel on

Can anybody tell me what is the difference between PaGP and LACP when
configering etherchannel on a Cat 3550.

All I know is that PaGP uses "auto and desireble" and that LACP uses "passive
and active"

But what is in the end the differences between those two?
