Hi group,

I am trying to set the mtu size for an ethernet interface as requested by
one of the scenarios in ipexpert. However, I got the below error:

r4(config)#int e1/0
r4(config-if)#mtu 1000
% Interface Ethernet1/0 does not support user settable mtu. <------- WHY?
This is the solution given

And i also noticed that under ip command, I can set ip mtu 1000 without
getting any error:

r4(config-if)#ip mtu 1000
r4(config-if)#

I guess MTU 1000 will set any traffic on the interface to 1000 bytes and IP
MTU 1000 will set any IP traffic to 1000 bytes for fragmentation, the former
will cover the later configuration. If I get such question in the exam, do I
have to be as specific as possible and find out if the interface only has IP
or other traffic before deciding which command to use?

regards - SH
