It doesn't exactly work that way... If you have a Call Manager already,
and you have managed to load a SIP image on the IP Phone, then you may
be able to play with other servers...

Otherwise, you need to look at SRST (Survivable Remote Site Telephony)
which is part of IOS that can do minor Call Manager items. See if you
can get your phone to register to it at that point. You'll need to set
up a DHCP server as well, but the SRST pages should help you through
that.

Subject: VoIP 7940 IP Phone , 3550 Switch

I bought 2 7940 phones to plug in my 3550 so I can play with voice vlan
etc....

I know how to make voice work with regular phone but don't know where to
start with IP phones.

Here are my questions:

1) Can I make the IP phones work without having to buy Unity / Call
Manager expensive software?

2) Do I need to setup one or more of my 2600 routers as H.323 gateways?

3) If I must use software to make the IP phone work, what it the best
Linux alternative ? I have seen a lot of free software for voice ....

Thank you,

Pierre-Alex
