I've had alot of trouble finding expert advice on the web
concerning ciscoworks. Even if you open a TAC case, there's
no guarantee that you will get sound advice about how
to work through, for example, java errors on the server, etc.
I've thought about starting a ciscoworks mailing list or
a network management tools mailing list or an enterprise
network engineer mailing list. I'm wondering if there is
widespread interest in this.
Specific to your case though, when you access CW from the
server itself is it similarly slow? I personally believe
that Ciscoworks is not optimized to work well across
a WAN or even in some cases a LAN. I havent pulled a Sniffer
out to look at packet traces, etc but that is my pre-investigative
conclusion.
So, also, in line with your query, I am interested in any
advice people have for tweaking Windows or Ciscoworks to
run faster, more efficiently. Any advice at all is appreciated.

Subject: OT: CiscoWorks LMS Very Sloooooow!
Folks,
I installed CiscoWorks 2000 LAN Management Solution v2.0 on a Dual
Pentium with 2 Gb RAM. The hardware is above Cisco's hardware
requirements but for some reason, CiscoWorks is very slow. It takes
forever (over 5 minutes) to
bring up the topology services Java applets and other applets. (Gives
me one
more reason to hate Java.)
Just for completeness; per chance my server was flaky, I installed it on
several different servers with the same slow response. I've search
archives and Cisco.com for an explanation but no luck. I did install
the Java patch (JRE v1.3.1) that came with the distribution CD, but I
get this feeling that I'm missing another patch or something.
Does anybody have the same experience? How did you resolve it?
Joseph
