Dear All,
R1----RIPv1(172.31.12.0/25)----R2----OSPF(172.31.100.0/24)-----R3
Base on the scenario abv, R1 and R2 is running RIP.
R2 and beyond is running OSPF.
As RIP is a classful routing protocol, I cannot redistribute the connected route which in this case the 172.31.100.0/24 into RIP 172.31.12.0/25.
To overcome this problem where the RIP domain has a longer mask than the redistributed route, I created a tunnel interface between R1 and R2
(R1 tun1:10.1.1.1/24 and R2 tun1:10.1.1.2/24) an run a Classless Routing Protocol in my example I use EIGRP between it.
This solved the problem.
I'm not sure if what I did is correct to overcome such problem or is there a better method to do it.
Hope for some advice.
Thanks
Ivan Lim
