hi all,
need some help with WRED
WRED randomly drops packets when the average queue size is between min and max threshold.
the packet drop probability is calculated by the formula (is this formula correct ???)
_ _
| (avg queue lenth - min thresh) |
| --------------------------------------------| x mark probability denominator
|_ min thresh _|
where the average queue is actually exponentially weighted average queue size
how does the mark probability denominator influence the drop probability when the queue size is between min and max as the documentation says
"The mark probability denominator is the fraction of packets dropped when the average queue depth is at the maximum threshold. For example, if the denominator is 512, one out of every 512 packets is dropped when the average queue is at the maximum threshold. When the average queue size is above the maximum threshold, all packets are dropped"
i am a bit confused. can anyone send a link where this is explanied well
thanx
