AOL Compuserve Prodigy and a few others predated the commercial Internet as
"Online Service Providers." I remember when all of them started offering
bits and pieces of Internet access, they began with USENET and then later
WWW, and at first it was through an internal gateway. Only after the
explosion of the Internet did that network's access get more integrated into
their fabric. You can see the legacy overhang even now in AOL and the other
OSP's that have survived. Almost is like putting roller skates on a
dinosaur and calling it a car......IMHO
