Thanks Kevin! I was fortunate enough to pass on my first attempt. Thanks
to the guys at CyscoExpert I was well prepared before I went to take the
test at RTP. My situation was a little bit different than most people. I
have 5 years of real world experience and I didn't have any lab equipment.
I went to CyscoExpert for 30 days (10 hours a day) of lab time and training.
They did an excellent job! There is no formula for success that everyone
can follow but I think the guys at CyscoExpert have a pretty good idea of
when you are ready and what it will take to get you there.
Words of Wisdom:
1) I know it is hard to remain calm, but being relaxed will help you think
more clearly, if you don't relax you will not pass.
2) Do not spend more than 10 minutes on any given problem. If you waste
time working on a 3 or 2 point question you might miss getting the 15 points
that you would have earned in that amount of time if you had moved on. If
you have time after you have made it through the Lab then run back through
those trouble areas.
3) Along with point #2 you need to develop a strategy for taking the exam.
For my exam I wrote down a numbering scheme for every section and checked
questions off as I went along. I also used a symbol to mark questions that
I would have to come back to, either because I wasn't sure if I had it
correct or I didn't know at all.
4) Knowing the Doc CD well will not guarantee a pass for you but it should
be a big part of your studying. Finding things fast will help you get
through those odd IOS feature questions quickly (As stated in earlier posts
if you need the Doc CD for your routing protocols you aren't ready for the
lab yet). I would also like to add that I was told by the proctor yesterday
that they use a content engine to cache a copy of the univercd site directly
from cisco.com.
5) Listen to the instruction that the proctors give to you when you get
there, remember that they are there to do a job and they are a valuable
resource for understanding the exam. I have heard so many horror stories
about the proctors but I know my experience showed me that the proctors are
just like anyone else, be nice to them and they'll be nice to you. If you
have a problem don't be demanding, be kind.
6) RTP has an awesome break room! They have just about any drink you can
think of and of course it is all included in your $1,250 fee so make sure
you take advantage of that! Be careful about lunch though, not sure what
was in our pot pie thing... :o)
Good luck to everyone working to get their number! Stay with it and you'll
get there!
