As far as the router id, I would always specify it in the configuration,
that way you know what it is going to be for any given router at any time,
no surprises. This goes for the real world and the lab
As far as no sync, in the lab I would use no synchronization unless they
explicitly tell you that you can't use it. In the real world no one uses
synchronization, not that I know of anyway.

Hi gents,
I have a few questions on BGP. I've read Halabi a few times and had also
internal discussions regarding this.
When to use a BGP router-ID. Is it always neccesary to configure this
router-id ? If you do not configure this for OSPF your Virtual links
might not be running after adding higer loopback IP addresses.
Also Halabi is writing about the use of no sync. The books advice is to
use no sync instead of redistributing the BGP routes.
Whats the advice for such a situation when nothing is mentioned about
the use of no sync ?
