Hmm. I could have swore I tried the "sdm prefer extended" before but it
didn't work even though I had rebooted.
Tried it again and it seems to work.
cat1#sh sdm prefer
The current template is the default extended-match template.
The selected template optimizes the resources in
the switch to support this level of features for
8 routed interfaces and 1K VLANs.
