RE: Cat6500 - native or hybrid (again!)

I totally agree with Larry, especially about having the same (IOS)
interface on all equipment. The only problem is, it seems that Cisco
isn't doing such a swift job of incorporating various features into the
IOS. For instance, a common sore spot on Native IOS on 6500s is the
slow fail-over (~45-60 seconds) compared to the fail-over in hybrid mode
(~3 seconds). Also, things like support for LACP (IEEE 802.3ad) are
available in hybrid but not until just recent IOS releases for Native.

It looks as if Cisco is gearing up to go all IOS, but they need to start
making IOS it's priority instead of putting features in CatOS first then
a year or so later putting them in IOS. My 2 cents.

I am at cisco-SJ, all of our msfc based 6500's run on native ios. The
push
Is to go towards ios on all switching/routing. All the new switches,
3550, 6500, 4000 etc, will be geared for ios...I personally like it
better than having two
OS's to deal with..

Cisco is pushing towards the IOS software if you can run it.
They are starting to release new features in IOS first and from what I
have been told, some new features may not even be integrated to the
CatOS.

I'm sure that those on this list that work for Cisco can comment on
whether Cisco has reversed direction or not though.

I run native mode on several switches, and with the exception of a
terribly confusing upgrade process, I have yet to have any problems.

hi guys

i am deciding whether to upgrade our cisco 6500s right across our
network
with native ios or sticking with hybrid catos/ios.

i have searched the archives and had a look on cco but i wanted to get
some
info from people who have tried both.

i think that there are a number of problems with high availability with
native ios for example. are there any other advantages or disadvantages
with

native ?

so what do you suggest - stick with hybrid or go with native ? please
let me

know why !

thanks very much in advance

bob
