Hello, Hold , Invavid, Flush timers (is there a formula?)

I thought that when timers are defined (on anything) the folmula is:

Hello= user defined
hold= hello x 3
flush= hello x 8

I as because I am doing Section 27 and the HSRP section instructs to config
R5/R6 to send hellos every 500ms.

The solution has 'standby timers msec 500 msec 1000'
which puts the hold time @ hello x2.

Can someone post a useful link in determining these timers?
