Personally I think the change is good. I hate to wait for a minute to see the output of "show run" in 2500.
For R&S, you probably don't have to worry too much about the new equipment. 3725 has extra features like IP telephony which won't be tested in R&S.
You don't have to buy exact equipment for pratice. I spent about 1-2 hour in Catalyst 3900 for my R&S, and Catalyst 3550 for my Security. I'll plan to use 2600/3600 to test most of IPT features for Voice.
I wish they could have at least one GSR for C&S lab. :). I think they should.

I think it is because of the CCIE Voice. The 3725 is on the list of
equipment there. And why not put one in every rack so that any of them
can be used for any of the labs.
