I think the Ethernet switching modules are more tightly integrated in the
3700-series platforms than the 2600/3600 models.

For a small to medium-sized remote office, a 3700-router/switch can serve as
the single "network" device. This may or may not be attractive given your
desire for high-availability/fault tolerance, etc.

What special features on 3700 which are not available on 26xx/36xx series?

I can only find/think of this 2:
- Compatibility with more than 90% of the world's legacy analog and digital
TDM PBXs
- Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) features that enable centralized
call processing with local
branch IP Telephony redundancy
