Kevin, thanks for your response, but unfortunately that would not help my
situation.

The routes originate in sub as 35078 (AS200), the router that needs to
filter the routes to its external neighbour is in sub as 65256 (AS200). All
AS 200 routers need to learn the route. This router has multiple external
neighbours and it has to advertise the routes to each of them, except one in
particular.

Setting the Local AS community - while preventing the route from appearing
in the hosts bgp table, which is the final goal, it also prevents the route
from appearing in other routers BGP tables which should not occur.

try this well-known communities:

local-as

Do not advertise this route to peers outside the local autonomous system.
This route will not be advertised to other autonomous systems or
sub-autonomous systems when confederations are configured.

Hi there;

Last night I was doing a BGP practice LAB where by one of the requirements
was to filter routes advertised to an external neighbour that didn't
originate in the local AS (AS200).

An easy request it would seem, but the problem was that I was running
confederations thus the ip as-path access-list reg exp of ^$ for local
routes wouldn't work as in the BGP table of the advertising router the as
path of routes in the same AS but different sub-AS was (65078) ?

Is there a way to filter out these routes??
