Admin distance is relative only to the router you configure it upon.
It's basically a gauge of believability for the same prefix from
different sources.
If you want to adjust the distance on a neighboring router you should
configure the neighboring router to catch them upon ingress and adjust
the distance.

I think I have a fair understanding of the 'distance' command, but the
RIP
routes are not showing wth an AD of 140 on a neighboring OSPF Router
(R2).
Here is what I have:
.105_______(S0.501)R5
R2(s0) /
\.106_______(S0.601)R6
R5/R6
router ospf 1
distance 140 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 1
!
access-list 1 permit 170.1.7.7
access-list 1 permit 170.1.8.8
access-list 1 permit 170.1.200.0 0.0.0.31
access-list 1 permit 170.1.78.4 0.0.0.3
access-list 1 permit 150.50.4.0 0.0.0.255
Should this not make the routes appear with an AD of 140 on R2?

Without the above command, I am getting routing loops because R5/R6 are
also
running RIP. They mutually redistribute RIP and OPSF.
