I passed the lab at RTP last Wednesday. What a joy! My path to the CCIE
was not like one of those that we see posted occasionally, "studied for a
couple of months and passed first time". It took me over two years of hard
work, lots of time away from my family, and the development of discipline to
study when so many distractions were available.
My recommended resources:
Undoubtedly, the biggest help to me in this quest was the unwavering support
and confidence of my lovely wife, Olivia. I highly recommend having your
wife committed with you.
Good study partners kept me motivated and pulled me over some rough spots.
Thanks to Will, Lance, Gordon, Tim and David.
Two weeks at CyscoExpert gave me a huge boost towards success. The hands-on
approach is great, the labs are mind-bending, and most of all, the
instructors are nice people gifted with the ability to explain very complex
subjects simply. Thank you Bahram, Brian, Peter, Tom and Naren. I
recommend them highly.
IPExpert labs were excellent. 85% of the skills required for the lab are
there. The bad news is you have to do them to gain the benefits. Just
owning them is not enough :)
My favorite books: Routing TCP/IP V1 & 2 (Jeff is the man!) and Parkhurst's
BGP and OSPF books. There are other good books, but these are the stone
tablets!
The proctors at RTP; Howard and Jeff were very professional, and as helpful
as the rules allow.
Last but not least; groupstudy is a great learning tool.
