Yes, When you configure demand-circuit on the bri interface, you don’t need
to configure "backup interface bri x/x" , because when the serial goes down,
bri immediately will go up backing up the serial.
Now, bri backup will stay up backing up the serial for the time you
specified in the "dialer idle timeout x" (without this command, 120 seconds
by default) and, after this uptime, bri interface will shut down. It will go
up only upon the interesting traffic you defined in the "dialer-list". Now
at this point, both bri and serial are down.

Now once the serial comes back up, it will spark the bri and get it up again
for the idle time (once again without this command, it is 120 seconds by
default). For this idle time, both bri and serial are up.

If you are not using demand-circuit, then use "backup interface" method as a
backup tool.

Subject: backup line in OSPF

Hi, group

My router's serial interface and bri interface are in
the ospf area. And I set the demand-circult command on the
bri interface, the bri interface's cost is higher than
serial interfaec , so the serial was routed first, in this
environment, I don't need the backup command on serial
interface , right? The bri with backup the serial
interface, and when the serial interface recovery, the bri
will time-out and go to down, right?

Thanks alot
