If the route was
1 - learned via iBGP
2 - not learned via IGP and therefor not synchronized
It can't be selected as best route and will not be sent to any BGP peer.

Subject: BGP synchronisation issues
Hi All,
Sample config:
R1(AS100)----R2(AS200)-----R3(AS200)----R4(AS400)
|---OSPF area1--|---OSPF area0--|---OSPF area4--|
Need some confirmation and advice:
Base on the abv config, I enabled bgp synchronisation
on all routers. All routers are also running OSPF. I
generated some bgp routes on R1 (192.168.1.1/24 and
192.168.2.1/24) where these routes are not advertise
thru OSPF.
The routes are passed on to R2 and R3 bgp table.
However the routes is not passed on to R4.(Since the
routes is not learned by IGP at R3)
For testing, I did the following:
Test 1.
I added a static route summarizing the 2 network in R3
ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.254.0 172.16.23.2.
However, the 2 network were not advertised to R4 by
BGP.
Test 2.
I added 2 static routes
ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.23.2 and
ip route 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.23.2
Now, the 2 network were advertised to R4 by BGP in R3.
Test 3.
I advertised the 2 network into OSPF thru R1 to the
rest of the routers. When BGP on R3 received the
network, it advertised to R4.
Is the abv a normal behavior for BGP with
synchronistion on? The BGP expect an exact match of
the network it is advertising in the routing table
before sending it to its EBGP neihbor.
Please advice.
Thank you
Ivan
