DCE/DTE at layer 1 has nothing to do with DCE/DTE at layer 2 for FR.
Therefore you can have a serial interface that has a DTE cable connected to
it and make it a FR DCE. Clock rate is only related to layer 1.
In your case just attach DCE cables to the end of your Octal cable and
configure each of the connected routers with a clock rate. On the 7200
configure the serial interfaces with frame-relay intf-type dce.

Subject: Frame-Relay - Switching
Hello Group,
I have a 8-port serial adapter on a 7200 series router, with a octal cable.
what i basically need to do is , configure one port for frame-relay
encapsulation and as a dce port .
The problem is , when i do sh controllers serial port, it shows up as a DTE
port,
I have configured the serial port, as frame-relay intf-type dce as well as
frame-switching but i cannot configure the clockrate command (command not
available under intf mode) since i believe the cable is DTE.
Need a confirmation, To make a serial interface , DCE with FR encap, we need
the clockrate command as well.
Actually i am in a fix, bcos its a Octal cable, and this router has to be
DCE,
or can i convert one of the legs of the octal cable to DCE by attaching one
more cable.
Pls advise
Thanks
Naresh
