PPP multilink fragmentation with interleaving configured on

I know I have asked about this before, and I got a useful response or two, but it's still bothering me that ppp multilink fragmentation with interleaving is seldom seen on multilink interfaces, by which I mean interfaces with names like "interface multilink 1."

I have seen it done in a production network, but in published examples I am not sure if I have ever seen it done on a multilink interface. The multilink interface has been available on even smaller routers' T1/E1 interfaces since Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(4)T, so it's not like it hasn't been around for a while.

Does anyone know of any problems using the multilink interface for configuring multilink ppp? Any advantage to using the virtual-template? I just want to make sure I am not missing something important.
